Introducing the Fornasetti range from Cole & Son – a whole new way to look at wallpaper.
Wallpaper is a fantastic design tool that can pack a huge visual punch to any space, especially the Cole & Son Fornasetti range currently available at LOFT in Malta.
Whether you are telling a story or making a feature of a wall or room, the range from Cole & Son is exquisite, imaginative and elegant. Designed by Piero Fornasetti, a renowned Milanese artist and sculptor, the wallpaper takes themes from science, art and nature and reimagines them in a clever and eclectic style to provide a visual wow!
But what is also great about wallpaper is that it doesn’t just have to go on the wall. Now this may sound odd, but imagine if you wanted the wallpaper to be more of an accent than a statement, or if you want to immerse yourself gently into a whole new way of viewing design and décor? Thinking around the subject of design is a great mind work out as well as an opportunity to do something individual and personal to you. It is your home after all.
So, a few ideas on how to use the Fornasetti range of wallpaper to maximum effect:
Half and Half – not low- fat milk but a design statement!
Wallpapering the top half of a wall is a great way to get the look without overwhelming the space. A lower element of either panelling or paint effect, with an architectural moulding or beading to separate the two looks amazing. Effortlessly turn a long hallway or dead space into a library.
Fornasetti ex Libris
Create a classic look in your dining room or a traditional counterpoint in a hugely contemporary apartment. Style par excellence.
Two Become One

Fornasetti Macchine Volante
A stunning and bold effect involves covering the top half of a wall with one paper and the bottom half with another without any need for a dado rail to separate the two. Create a new world on your wall as shown here, with the night sky from your ‘balcony’.
This is a tough look to pull off but when done right it looks amazing. If you want something subtle but visually strong, consider contrasting patterns such as;

Create a Feature Wall
Look at ME!
Fornasetti Acqua Rio
A papered feature wall is a great way to create or enhance an already existing focal point. It draws the eye to great effect, provided you ensure that you are not competing with another focal point in the room. When there is more than one focal point, the lines of the room become confused and chaotic which is not really the effect you want to achieve.
Choosing the wall behind the flat screen or fireplace, around a large window, the bedhead or any other spot the eye is naturally drawn to is one way. Dead spaces such as corridors also work beautifully.
A while ago, pleated fabric ceilings were high interior fashion but dust and debris over your dining table or bed are not necessarily your preferred housemates. Wallpapered ceilings create a visually stunning opportunity as well as an easy to clean and maintain environment. However, this is a specialist job and not a recommended DIY project! Get it done right the first time and hire a professional.
If you’re going down this route, go all the way and either choose something highly decorative and bold or mellow and restful – especially in a bedroom.

Decoupage your Furniture
If you want to keep your walls classic minimalist white but are drawn to these beautiful designs, consider decoupage. You can upcycle an old piece or add a little personalised flair to something new. This look works better on pieces that have clean lines and simple silhouettes such as wardrobes, chests of drawers or console tables for a truly unique finish.

Wallpaper as Art
If a big project is too much for your nerves, start small and choose a paper to frame and hang. This is a great way to incorporate the pattern without any of the effort or expense you get with traditional applications. Equally if you cannot choose or commit to one pattern from the divine Fornasetti range – and we sympathise – choose several to use as wall hangings, much like tapestries in the past and use them as seasonal or event decorations for those special times at home.

Should you have a few questions as to how and where best to use these amazing designs, the team at LOFT is both qualified and on hand to advise and discuss how to make this work within your home, your office or any space. We can also refer good paper-hangers in your area.
