In Malta, the houses tend to be very different from the rest of Europe. While our gorgeous yellow limestone provides the perfect cool environment we need during our long hot summers, it is unfortunately, not very effective in keeping out the winter cold.
From chilly bathrooms to freezing bedrooms, it’s hard to keep cozy during the Maltese winter.
So below, we have come up with a few suggestions to cozy up your home this winter.
1. Cushions, cushions, cushions
Pile up the cushions and you will instantly feel cozier. When paired with a warm blanket, you’re sure to feel cozier right away. If you plan to buy, then go for cushions with different textures as it will add colour too. We have a vast selection of pillows and fabrics available at LOFT. Pop in to take a look.
2. Add warm colors
Bright colours are great for summer, but for winter, they can make the room feel cold. One way to warm up the feel of a room is to paint one of the walls a darker colour such as chocolate brown or grey. Alternatively you could add dark, heavy curtains which will keep drafts out too.
3. Add a throw blanket
Buy a nice, thick throw blanket to snuggle under on the sofa while watching a movie and sipping a nice glass of wine. Not much more to add to this point!
4. Take out the quilts
It is important to remain warm while sleeping, so take out the quilts and enjoy the extra warmth.
5. Rearrange your Furniture
If you have a fireplace, then perhaps move the furniture closer to it. If you don’t, perhaps rearrange the furniture so it’s closer together to give a cozier feel to the room.
6. Get the rugs out
Most homes in Malta are tiled, so it’s important to get some rugs down to keep your feet warm. We have a beautiful new range of rugs from Linie. Pop in to Loft to take a look.
